Channel failures that teach more than clean trends

Clean rising channels look persuasive in textbooks. Live markets deliver more broken ones. That is useful, if you study the break instead of mourning the sketch.

What to record after a failure

Note which boundary failed first — upper or lower — and whether volume or session timing accompanied the move. Record whether the opposite boundary still acted as a magnet. Often one side dies while the other briefly lives; that asymmetry matters more than a perfect parallel.

Classroom drill

In the Evening Drill Lab we project a channel mid-formation, hide the rightmost bars, and ask each participant to mark a break condition in advance. Then we reveal price. The point is not prediction accuracy; it is whether your condition was specific enough to be wrong cleanly.

Trendline discipline grows faster on imperfect channels than on lines that never get tested.
